The main menu lets you download maps and see the current map shown, access travel guides, favorites and groups, start routes & tracks, change your map Activity and style and search nearby POI (points of interest), addresses and coordinates. It also lets you adjust numerous app settings, share the current map location, export or import favorites data, and includes other helpful resources.

Hint: On iPad, you can swipe right anytime on the sidebar to reduce it to a compact tool bar which still offers the most common functions. Swipe left or tap in the white area to re-open the full sidebar menu.

Hint: On iPhone, you can swipe down on any screen to quickly return to the map and press and hold on the Menu button to return to your previous location.

• Search Bar: Tap the search bar at the top of main menu for nearby suggestions and enter text to search all types of offline content available. It supports entry and offline coordinate parsing in a number of formats and also offers and option for Online Address and Place search. The icon inside the right edge of the search bar allows you to access the Coordinate Wheels Entry screen for entering DMS and DM.mm format coordinates more easily. For browsing lists of offline content and for additional search options (including sort options and a wider radius Nearby POI search), select one of the more specialized sub-screens from the main menu.
• Activities: Below the search bar, there is a blue box for controlling the Map Activity. Tap the arrows to change the current Activity and tap the current Activity title to customize it. The Activity controls which information is displayed on the map as well as the map styling and related options. Each activity offers its own layer settings and remembers your settings for that Activity.
• Auto Waypoints: This is a per Activity option. When enabled, just select any POI or Pin on the map to see a geodesic line with distance and azimuth shown. Useful for hiking and outdoor navigation.
• Pin, Route, Track buttons: These button create new Pins, Routes or Tracks.
• Manage Maps allows you to download maps via search or by drilling down through a Continent: Country: Region: City selector.
• Travel Guides gives you access to 10's of thousands of detailed worldwide Wikivoyage travel guides.
• Favorites lists all of your saved Pins, POI, Routes and Tracks.
• Groups & Filters lists all of your Groups (Lists) as well as standard filters (All Favorites by type, etc).
• Nearby allows offline search of POI (points of interest) and streets in the area currently shown on the map. You can browse by category and/or search for something specific. Different sorting options let you browse by name, type, or distance. If Wikipedia is installed, articles are also accessible through the Wikipedia category. Tap the Radius button at top right to change the search radius. You can select a radius of up to 128km from the map center or use the Current Map option to control the search area by panning and zooming the map. For best results, you should download the map data of interest in advance (by saving the city, region, or country). If the GPS is enabled and set for center tracking, your search results will update automatically as you move.
• Contacts allows you to access your phone contacts and view their location on the map. This uses the contacts listed street address, and thus requires you to be online to make the small address search request to the server.
• Recents lists the last 100 items you have recently viewed on the map. Swipe to remove specific items from the list.
• Tools:
• Share Current Location: Allows sharing of the current map view via email, SMS, or by copy & pasting the map coordinates.
• Share Map Screenshot: Takes a screenshot of the current map view without the buttons over it and allows you to save to Photos or share to friends.
• Export: Allows export of all saved Routes, GPS Tracks, Pins, and Fav Listings to a GPX formatted file, all Pins to a CSV formatted file, or make a complete backup of all your favorites data as a Pocket Earth Archive. You can also email or SMS a link of the current map view. Exported files can be transferred to your computer through iTunes or can be sent by email and then used in some other third party software and devices. Pocket Earth Archives can be used to backup/restore your data, or to transfer your data to our app running on another device (manual sync). You can also export individual routes, tracks, and groups from their respective Info screens. See the Import/Export section for more details.
• Import: Allows you to import GPX and CSV formatted files, as well as Pocket Earth Archives. Files can be transferred from your computer through iTunes or opened directly on your device from an email attachment or other app that supports standard "Open In..." functionality. See the Import/Export section for more details.

Hint: You can press & hold on any result in any of the above lists to view it directly on the map.

Hint: Search results of favorites includes address matching and notes matching, so you can search for a location such as Paris to quickly find all your saved content in Paris. On the Favorites screen, search works in conjunction with Edit mode, thus allowing you to quickly find svaed items and organize them into Groups! Groups can be useful for sharing collections with friends, for quickly hiding wholes sets of items, and for general organization.
